Atwater

Atwater is a city on State Route 99 in Merced County, California, 8 miles west-northwest of Merced.  The city is known for the Castle Air museum which is housed on the former Castle Air Force Base and features almost sixty aircraft from pre World War 2 through present.  The city also has an established history of food processing, farming, and light manufacturing companies which brings repeat General Aviation service needs to the area.

Castle Airport is a public use airport located in Atwater, seven nautical miles northwest of the central business district of Merced, California.  The airport is located at the former Castle Air Force Base which closed in 1995. This land is owned jointly by the city of Merced, city of Atwater and the county of Merced.  The airport is near Yosemite National Park and is a popular location for charter clients. This airport features a single runway that is eleven thousand eight hundred and two feet long.
